World Wide Technology Championship - Recap
Well that sucked. We never really were in contention which is annoying, but good golly EVR did an unbelievable job grabbing that tournament. I know folks still don’t like what I said about Tom Kim a few weeks ago and think “unless a guy wins by 5, Titanic isn’t going to respect it” and that is not true at all. EVR won by 2, but THAT is how you go out and win a freaking golf tournament. That was unreal and all credit to him.
Anyway, we dropped 2.2u this week. Obviously going whole hog on Theegala went about as well as a wet fart in church. He might as well have pissed on our heads. We struck out on T10’s. Thankfully a minor miracle happened and we were able to eek out a T20 profit after accounting for Sahith’s no-show and OMG (!!!) Head-to-heads had a PROFIT!!!! What a nice change that is!
Butterfield Bermuda Championship
The PGA Tour continues its international swing with a short trip to the lovely island of Bermuda to visit Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton Parish, Bermuda. This course plays to a par 71 over a distance of ~6,800 yards.
This is a relatively new tournament as this is only the 5th edition of this tournament.
The 2022 Bermuda saw co-second favorite Seamus Power (20-1) capture his 2nd PGA Tour victory when shot -19 to beat Thomas Detry (25-1) by 1 stroke. The 2021 edition saw Lucas Herbert (60-1 odds) capture his only PGA tournament win when he shot -15 to top Danny Lee (100-1_ and Patrick Reed (20-1) by 1 stroke, and the 2020 edition saw Brain Gay (-15) capture his first tournament win in close to 7 years, this time as a 200-1 shot, when he bested Wyndham Clark (80-1) in a playoff.
Last year, we had an absolutely awful tournament going 2-13 for a 5.4 unit loss (-71.1% ROI). The only bets we won that week were head-to-head matchups, but it was not enough to find a profit in any betting category.
As will be our expectation for most of the fall calendar, this field lacks high-level names in the 132-man field and honestly, it even weaker than I expected so we are taking 7.4u of risk and holding some powder dry for the Nedbank Gold Challenge (link to those picks):
