Rocket Mortgage Classic - Recap
Well we clearly didn’t get a winner, but that was a fun weekend of golf, right?!?
Let’s start with the bad - how many freaking bets can we lose on the 72nd hole? It seems like every week it happens. Last week it was Ghim, this week it was Keegan Bradley bogeying his 72nd hole to lose a match up in which he was up by 4 strokes entering Sunday and Cantlay bogeying his 72nd hole to push his match up vs Cam Young.
Sticking with the matchups we had Tringale pull the opposite of Bradley and some how came back and won his matchup. Homa tried his best to give us a sweat but was able to close out birdie birdie to win by 2.
We rolled with Willy Z and he looked ok Thursday, terrible Friday and Saturday and the guy we know and love on Sunday to battle back on Sunday to get us T20. Not much to say about Pendrith other than, nice to see him do that. Henley and Kirk also came through as best as we could hope. T20’s clearly made the week for us.
Wyndham Championship
The PGA Tour heads to lovely Greensboro, NC1 for the Wyndham Championship. Sedgefield Country Club will play to a par 70 across just over 7,100 yards. Unlike the last few tournaments, this tournament has a long history having been played since 1938 and has been at this course since 2008. Last year’s winner was -15, but look for the score to be in the -17 to -21 range.
This is actually a bit of a deeper field than I expected and keep an eye on folks who have a home course advantage because they are NC residents, are born in NC, or went to Wake so some names to look at in these categories are Webb Simpson2, HV33, Zalatoris4.
This is the final tournament prior to the FedEx Cup playoffs kicking off so that results in this being a tournament without many of the top 50, but what this DOES mean is that this will be the final opportunity for guys to get into the Top 125. While it is great to get into the FedEx Playoffs the more important thing for the guys out on the course is that if they do not make the top 125 they may not have their Tour Cards for next year.
Further, as Nathan Hubbard continues to point out on the excellent Fairway Rollin’ podcast, next year the Tour card cut will be Top 70 so if you are not in the Top 125 this year and a full time pro next year, it is highly unlikely Top 70 is achievable. We in American sports do not have a true meritocracy as they do in Soccer around the globe with relegation and promotion, but THIS is just that!

Rant time - I have had the distinct opportunity to go to Greensboro on more than one occasion and pro tip, if you end up with a delayed flight keep an eye on the bar in the airport as they will still close up shop at like 7pm and then you will be stuck with no booze.
From Raleigh, lives in Charlotte on Quail Hollow
From and lives in Charlotte area
Did you know he went to Wake and was teammates with Cam Young?!?!?!? Jesus Christ, has that been mentioned enough?
I am going a little bit deeper than I would normally and here is why - On a normal week my calcs show about 5-7 top 30 guys with outright value, this week it is 9, same goes for T20 and this week it 12. Given the excess value I am going to stretch a little.
