To be completely honest, I could not fully understand what I was starting when I started this Substack one year ago today. This thing has grown bigger than I expected, though I honestly am not sure what I expected.
When I started this Substack I got 16 subscribers on the first day and I was equally thrilled and shocked. I could not believe people would sign up so quickly to read my thoughts on sports betting, even if it was free.
I say that because I still can’t get over that here I sit, a year later, and Week 3’s NFL Picks newsletter just had almost 1,100 views!
I am sure many of you, if not all, came because of the success we have had. I am thrilled to be able to honestly say that over the last 12 months the NFL, NBA, and PGA Tour content posted on Substack has achieved over 125 units of profit.
Yes, I hope to keep this place FREE, but please recognize the amount of time and effort it takes to keep this place running as a one-person show; I can tell you it is quite a bit. For example, I spend 12+ hours each week on the Friday NFL picks newsletters alone.
I do make it optional to provide financially and if you are debating kicking in some help I ask you to look at it this way - if tomorrow my newsletter started costing you $5/ month or $50/ year would you be willing to pay that price? If yes, please opt-in by upgrading your account or donating a subscription because if I start charging for my content, I will be honest, it will be at a much higher price than that.
It has been, mostly, a joy to be here with you all. Yes, I have haters, and yes, I still get rather heated when I see all these scam artists on Twitter / Discord / Telegram / IG charging hundreds of dollars and sucking folks in with claims of unrealistic results, but one of the things that has made me so optimistic about this space is that the piece I wrote in the last year that has generated the most feedback was the Gambling Lessons Learned series and all of it was positive.
When I started writing that series I worried that it would come off as me being a pompous prick bloviating about how I am smarter than everyone. Thankfully the feedback was that it came across as me hoping to help guide people away from making the same mistakes I have made (as intended).
Anyway, I am starting to ramble. Let me just reiterate:
THANK YOU!!!!
I am truly humbled, and still kind of shocked to be honest, by the faith folks have shown me and the time you all have spent reading my (often very wordy) newsletters. Without you all reading this stuff, there would be no point so I appreciate each and every one of you. Here is to another profitable year!
