In case you are thinking about signing up - my plan going forward is to do the following races:
March 23 - Lousiana Derby (Fair Grounds)
March 30 - Florida Derby (Gulfstream) or Arkansas Derby (Oaklawn)
April 6 - Wood Memorial (Aqueduct) or Blue Grass (Keeneland)
April 13 - Lexington Stakes (Keeneland) ← this will be determined based on how things are going at that point and my personal schedule
Triple Crown - Friday posts will be for those who support, these will be repulished for free day of the races.
May 4 - Kentucky Derby
May 18 - Preakness Stakes
June 8 - Belmont Stakes
Now that is a lot and I can’t promise all of them, but I do still promise at least 2 per month, and if this goes well, I may keep doing content throughout the summer.
Fountain of Youth Recap
That was both incredibly disappointing and encouraging at the same time.
Let’s talk about why it was encouraging - The Holy Bull card was an absolute disaster from a handicapping perspective. I was off on every single race and usually by a fair margin. Then we had Rebel Stakes Day and the results were much better but I still felt like I was dead on or dead wrong on each race.
While the results were not there for Fountain of Youth Day, my handicapping was pretty on point as we had lots and lots of horses hitting the board, just not exactly in the order we needed. That means the handicapping was good and the card construction needed work or we got unlucky (I tend towards the former). That is a fine place to be!
Now the disappointing bit is clearly that we did not convert nearly enough of those tickets into winners. We had a great hit in Race 1 with a $117.80 exacta, but that was really the end of the winners of note for us. It felt like we were just so close to a big winning day that it is hard to stomach that we walked away with 1.7u of loss. We are also now down 5.5u this year which is no bueno.
Race-by-Race Analysis:
We have 4 graded stakes races today with the:
Grade 2 - Challenger Stakes (Race 6)
Grade 2 - Hillsborough Stateks (Race 9)
Grade 3 - Florida Oaks (Race 10)
Grade 3 - Tampa Bay Derby (Race 11)
As always, I have handicapped every single race on the card and will update these after the scratches are announced and I will send out a note to everyone to check back!
If you are wondering what is below this line, please check out last week’s card for the Fountain of Youth.
